Harrisvaccines Public Relations

Pigs are important to Iowa. In fact, the corn state puts out more than 2.5 times the amount of pork than its closest rival. Thus, healthy pigs equal a healthy economy in Iowa.

Harrisvaccines is an innovative animal vaccine producer based in Ames, Iowa. The company is a global leader in herd-specific animal vaccine technology, the first vaccine producer to receive a conditional United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) license for a Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus vaccine, and the first company to produce a H1N1 vaccine in face of a pandemic outbreak.

Because of the importance of the pork industry in Iowa, there are many stakeholders impacted by the work of Harrisvaccines. The challenge for the LS2group public relations team was to build a campaign to educate industry stakeholders, media, and consumers about the safety and efficacy of their products. Specifically, Harrisvaccines needed a media relations campaign efforts aimed at increasing overall brand awareness and garnering support for the brand.

LS2group worked to increase brand awareness and exposure for Harrisvaccines by connecting with and educating key members of the traditional print, broadcast, and agricultural media and by identifying and activating industry validators. LS2group solidified key messaging to truly convey the important work at Harrisvaccines, promote the crucial need for their unique technology, and define how their technology changes the industry standard.

LS2group was able to create positive awareness for Harrisvaccines by identifying, forming, and strengthening relationships with key members of the media (local, regional, national, trade, and international). Our public relations campaign also helped establish key members of the Harrisvaccines team as industry experts. Throughout this relationship, LS2group was able to utilize the media relationships formed to get interviews and stories with dozens of outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Bloomberg, The Des Moines Register, Agri-Pulse, and more. Through award nominations, LS2group was also able to boost the presence of Harrisvaccines at the local, regional, and national levels – pursuing and winning awards such as: Technology Association of Iowa’s Prometheus Awards, a spot on Inc. 5000’s list of America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies, and Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the Upper Midwest.]
